Also, I was in the forest and heard a chopper flying around, it came and went then came back for a bit then went again. Didn't see anything, just heard it. Just curious - is this just audio?

I did have a pistol on me but it was away in my bag and couldn't have fired. All of the zombies were drawn to it as a real shot, too. I followed the horde and couldn't find whatever fired the gun although I did find open windows and doors.

As far as I can deduce, they have not spotted you, but simply migrated elsewhere and stumbled on you purely by chance. Zombies sometimes migrate and they can easily cross from one side of the town to the opposite when they do.Follow sound distance (FSD) only affects meta events, choppers, house alarms and car alarms. The base setting is 100, which means a meta zed will walk 100 tiles towards the epicenter of one of these sounds and then stop (unless yhe sound is repeating like an alarm).
